Preemption certificates, nos.1-2738, from the Virginia Land Office, October 14, 1779 - May 10, 1785.

These records contain original certificates issued on the basis of approved claims for land under settlement and preemption rights. Each certificate includes the name of the district in which the claim was heard, the name of the claimant, the number of acres to which he was entitled, the specific county in which the land was to be located, the reason for the allowance, the date of approval, and the names of the commissioners.
